About the speaker:
Dr. Hyun Jeong Ha is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Duke Kunshan University in Jiangsu, China. Her research interests lie in the intersection of religion, power, gender, and the Middle East. Trained as an ethnographer, she started to conduct field research in Cairo from 2006. Her current research focuses on daily experience of sectarianism in the post-Arab Uprisings Egypt. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2017 and was a Global Religion Research Initiative postdoctoral researcher at the University of Notre Dame (2017-2019). Her work on Christian-Muslim relations and gender politics in Egypt has appeared in Ethnic and Racial Studies, Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change, and The Journal of the Korean Association for Islamic Studies, among others.
